Possible Crowd-Sourcing Project

So I gave some thought to the idea of doing something on campus, using the student body as my crowd. Why not use something all these student already have in their possession to make art? I thought those new mini clickers that we all had to get were perfect. Why not set up a "room" everyone can log into, which has its signal broadcast across campus, they will be asked a question, like maybe how they are feeling that day, and their answer could correspond to a color. Each time a person logs in to the room, they will be given an incrementally new number, corresponding to a pixel in a picture. Their answer will turn their pixel a different color, and the result could be shown up on a giant screen, making an artwork from the response of the crowd

http://ubu.com/film/harris_highway.html - link to original

This is my video art project, I used hilary harris's film "Highway" as a basis, I realize I am not visible, but neither was she in the video. you can however see my hand in the reflection of the windshield, if I were more versed in premiere pro maybe it could be fixed. I thought that harris was trying to show the modernity of the highway in 1958, so I thought I'd show the modernity of the highway today.

also here is the audio track since a couple of you wanted me to post it

Video Art Part Deux

With digital media overshadowing analog media in today's world, has the affinity for physical artwork been lost?

When society has made access to a means to make video so easy, how do we define what is art and what is mere film documenting something irrelevant or unprovocative? Does the determining factor still lie with the intent of the author, as in other mediums?

Questions from Digital Divide

Since the introduction of digital archiving and online research, is the practice of artists studying their present world lost? If so, is it for better or worse?

With the ability to digitize, duplicate, and circulate images, how has the value of an original artwork been affected?

Heres my discussion questions from the first reading

If you have the chance to label/title your art, should you? For a purpose other than narrative of an informative piece.

Does a piece of work have to demand concentration from a viewer to be art? Can it simply be an escape from the outside world?

First project, digital diptych

The left one is my image, in which i tried to create a vision of man ascending to a higher plane whether through faith or science. The theme was apocalypse, which usually carries negative tones, and destruction, but the word itself just means a great change, so we figured we would try to see a good side to it. Ascension to a higher plane of existence seemed worthy of a positive apocalypse. The one on the right is my partners version of the same thoughts.
